Rep. LaPointe had the honor of standing with first responders, veterans, the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce, Alderman Jim Gardiner, and community members today to collectively remembered 9/11/01.
LaPointe spoke to those gathered at the memorial about honoring the lives lost while remembering those still impacted by long-standing health issues and invisible wounds. “This collective memory reminds us of the constant readiness of first responders to run into unknown danger, whether it be an unprecedented attack on American soil or an unprecedented global pandemic,” she continued. “What we can never forget are the aftereffects of this heroism that demand concrete support like the 9/11 compensation fund, safe workplaces every day and, in the case of our pandemic, expanded workers’ compensation and death benefits for first responders who contract COVID-19.”
