Rep. LaPointe had the tremendous honor of joining our veterans, including U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Chapa LaVia, along with Congressman Quigley, Governor Pritzker, Senator Martwick, Alderman Sposato and Commissioner Silvestri on Veterans Day to announce the opening of the new Chicago Veterans Home. This is the first state veterans home in Chicago and the first built in Illinois in 20 years. As Senator Duckworth reminded us, as the first conversations about this home were happening in the late 90s, “There is a need. There were 2,000 veterans on the waitlist.” Many people are to thank for years of tireless advocacy and work that went into the construction stops and starts of this building including our very own State Senator, Rob Martwick, and his predecessor, John Mulroe.
