State Representative Lindsey LaPointe Honored for 100% Pro-Environment Voting Record
(SPRINGFIELD, IL) – The Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) released its annual Legislative Environmental Scorecard this week rating state legislators based on their voting record on legislation affecting the environment during 2022 legislative business. State Representative Lindsey LaPointe (District 19) has been honored with a perfect voting record.
“I am proud of my 100% score on the Illinois Environmental Council’s Legislative Environmental Scorecard because I vote my environmental values,” said Represenative LaPointe. “It is an honor to represent the people of my district by protecting our most vulnerable residents from cumulative air pollution, making it easier to safely dispose of pharmaceuticals, and giving schools the power to purchase foods which are healthy, sustainable, and local.”
The 2022 Legislative Environmental Scorecard includes 22 legislative measures. Specific priorities from this year’s Scorecard include:
- Environmental Justice Permitting HB4093 – (Rep. Harper/ Sen. Villanueva)
- A cornerstone of this year’s policy agenda, this bill would make it much harder for polluters to locate within environmental justice communities where pollution is already highly concentrated. IEC supported this bill, which is expected to be called for a vote during the upcoming Veto session.
- Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) Attack Bill SB1104 – (Sen. Harris / Rep. Gabel)
- This bill sought to create a “reliability task force” stacked with fossil fuel interests and short on representation from the renewable industry. Additionally, the task force perpetuated false notions that renewables are unreliable, and its duties are duplicative to the reliability protocols and reporting requirements already present in CEJA. IEC opposed this bill.
- Waukegan Coal Ash Clean-Up SB3073 – (Sen. Johnson / Rep. Mayfield)
- Toxic coal ash pollution is a growing problem in Illinois, particularly in Waukegan, where a coal ash site is endangering both ground water and Lake Michigan, the source of drinking water for millions. Had this legislation passed, it would have required the complete removal and clean up of coal ashsites. IEC supported this bill and will pursue this important legislation in the future.
“Every time it counted, Rep. LaPointe stood up for our environment, public health and meaningful action on urgent matters of environmental protection,” said IEC Executive Director Jen Walling. “Illinois will be a cleaner, safer place to call home because of the leadership Rep. LaPointe demonstrated this session, and we look forward to building on that legacy together in the future.”
A total of 61 state legislators received recognition for their 100% voting record during the legislative session in 2022. IEC releases its scorecard annually.
